When a death occurs, there are many practical things to take care of as a relative. Some things are important to do right away, while others can expect something. The responsibility falls on the estate, ie those who are closest relatives. <\/p>\n\n
It can be difficult to keep track of everything and to know where to do it. We have therefore compiled a list of everything to do in the event of death. This checklist of deaths provides a clear overview of what needs to be dealt with. <\/p>\n\n
Announce the death <\/strong><\/h2>\n\n
The first thing to do in case of death is to inform the situation to all relatives. Those who need to be informed about the death include family, friends, estate owners, neighbors, colleagues and the workplace itself. <\/p>\n\n
Authorities within the state, municipality and county council, on the other hand, are automatically informed of deaths by the Swedish Tax Agency. Many other companies, such as insurance companies and banks, also receive automatic information from the Swedish Tax Agency. <\/p>\n\n
Arrange a death certificate <\/strong><\/h2>\n\n
Then you need to get a death certificate. These certificates are issued by the Swedish Tax Agency. The certificate is important to be able to pay bills for the estate and to terminate any agreements.<\/p>\n\n
Mail <\/strong><\/h2>\n\n
It is good that the person who takes care of the estate has access to the post, as it can provide important information about the estate itself. For 1 year, you can forward the mail to a special postal address. Notification of forwarding is made via Swedish Address Change. <\/p>\n\n
Also notify the change of address to the relatives. <\/p>\n\n
Take out insurance <\/strong><\/h2>\n\n
The next step on the death list checklist is to check what insurance the deceased had. Some insurances need to be canceled and premiums paid must be repaid. Other insurances must be transferred to someone else in the household. There are also insurances that fall out at the time of death. <\/p>\n\n

As a relative, you should review which automatic transfers are available, such as direct debit or e-invoices. Then you should also cut all bank cards, credit cards, petrol cards and discount cards. <\/p>\n\n
Social Media<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n
Many people choose to change the status of social media or quit social media altogether. Common social media can be for example: Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, Blog, Snapchat. <\/p>\n\n
If, on the other hand, you do not have access to the passwords, you can get help from the administrators of the sites. <\/p>\n\n
Death checklist – Other<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n
There are additional things that may be relevant to do in case of death. For example: <\/p>\n\n
– Empty mailbox– Empty the fridge and freezer– Water flowers and plants– Take care of garbage– Shred ID cards, driving licenses and passports– Collect all spare keys <\/p>\n\n
If the deceased has had medicine or home care, it is also good to arrange the following: <\/p>\n\n
– Inform home care– Submit medicine to the pharmacy– Return medical aids to hospital<\/p>\n\n
